Boot ini problems with windows xp :/?

when i boot my computer the message invalid boot.ini file booting from c:/windows\ pops up quickly then reboots and does the same i try to boot from cd to reinstall windows and boot from hdd but no matter what this message pops up and the computer reboots. can i get a hand here thanks. :)
