Chemistry help please, Unit 3 gcse question :)?

The methane gas itself is stable, as each atom has all the electrons it wants in its outer shell (H wants 2, C wants 8) as it shares the electrons in the bonds. When a flame is added, the little bit of energy breaks apart the bonds and the oxygen can react. It carries on burning as the energy from the breaking apart of the other atoms breaks apart more and so on.
